If we didn’t miss our flight we never would have been able to try the amazingness that is Maharlika! We haven’t been to a modern Filipino restaurant before so we were excited to try it! We heard a lot of good things and were impressed by what we saw on Yelp. I’ve also been craving some Filipino food and man was it a treat!
The Ube Waffles and Crispy Fried Chicken were incredible! The waffles were served with this insane bagoong and chives butter and a heavenly apricot maple syrup. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The chicken was yummy too…I mean…fried chicken and garlic fried rice!?!? Omg. The next time a friend from New York comes to visit SD…I will pay you to pack that shit up in a giant Tupperware and bring it with you!!!
Sizzling Sisig hot skillet with an egg mixed in and served table side. It’s food that plays with all of your senses. The sound of the sizzle as the waiter approaches your table. The smell wafts slowly towards you and takes you in. I’d get to the other senses but you get my point. Pair this orgasm in a skillet with garlic fried rice and you’re done. Just Done. DONE!
The only place I really wanted to go to on our New York trip was Morimoto’s restaurant. Ever since I first started getting into food and blogging it’s been on the top of my bucket list of things I must do before I shuffle off this mortal coil. I was excited, of course, to go to New York since I’ve never been before, but finally getting to go to Morimoto was the icing on the cake.
We started off with some fancy cocktails….of course. :]
We started with the Toro tartare. This slab of beauty is garnished with caviar that you spread throughout and I paired with a dipping sauce and 6 toppings. You dip it in a lil bit of this and then you top it with a lil bit of that…so delicious! I was so overwhelmed that I wasn’t paying attention to the waiter when he was explaining the different sauces and toppings. Each topping had different flavor profiles and complimented the toro in different ways …a definite must try! I wish it was a bigger slab!!!
Ten hour cooked pork belly with congee and soy scallion jus – a modern twist to traditional Kakuni. Sweet and savory melt in your mouth in perfect harmony and just when you think its rich flavors are done, you cut into crispy textures that pull you back in! Loooved it!
Crispy rock shrimp tempura. Pooh wanted to order it and I wasn’t quite sure why. With so many unique and interesting items on the menu I was like…shrimp tempura? Really? I was pleasantly suprised by how amazeballs these things were! One was glazed with spicy kochujang sauce that blows hot wings out of the water; the other had wasabi aoli…I was eating these things like butter popcorn topped with crack. So addicting!
Pooh ordered the Duck Duck Duck. It’s ingredients say it all…foie gras croissant, roasted duck, a poached duck egg, and 2 dipping sauces. Zomg. It was very rich and fatty…heaven.
I ordered the roasted maine lobster topped with veggies, keffir lime, and green curry sauce. So many incredible flavors yet they didn’t take away from the subtle richness of the lobster. My heart melted. *swoon*
Pooh and I had an incredible meal. I was smiling the entire time! I cannot wait to come back and try more things! Although it ain’t cheap, i highly recommended checking it out on your next trip to New York!

Jk. Just visiting for vacation. :) Pooh and I are off to New York tomorrow morning for a few days. We’ll be staying in Times Square Thursday till Sunday evening. A short trip but long enough to enjoy ourselves without having to come back to maddness at work. I’m excited but also nervous…you guys know how I feel about flying. -_-.
Anyway, see you tomorrow New York! Wear that thing I like….rawrrr!

Pooh and I just got the Google Nexus 10 in the mail today. I absolutely love it!
One feature that they’ve added that I really like is multiple user support. Since we don’t need 2 tablets, it’s nice to be able to switch to my profile and have all my accounts already logged into my apps and vice versa. Switching users is as quick and simple as unlocking the screen.
The 2560×1600 high resolution screen and powerful processor displays images and video beautifully. They were also very smart in designing the tablet with front facing speakers, which makes watching porn a fully pleasurable experience!
The Nexus 10 comes with the latest version of Android (4.2). The interface is clean and fully customizable. I prefer the Nexus 10 much more than our old Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Pooh and I also picked up an HDMI cable to see how the tablet displayed on our TV. Since the screen on the Nexus 10 has a high def 2560×1600 resolution, displaying on our TV was like a mirror image. The images on both screens were in high def. Videos and apps played seamlessly.
There’s still much more for me to try out on it but so far so good! I’m definitely satisfied with the Nexus 10 and I highly recommend it. Droid users will love it and I can see a lot of iPad/iPhone users liking it as well.
Pooh and I had a free night at the Spa Resort & Casino in Palm Springs so we thought we’d use it before our schedule got crazy (because of the holidays). We drove up Sunday, checked in, and just had ourselves a great night! I was surprised by how nice our room was. I honestly thought there would be floral bed sheets and old style furnishing. It was a bit like the Vdara but not as fancy; we were still very pleased. :). Since we were only staying for one night we made the best use of our “alone time” in the room…twice – once before going out and another returning after our night out on the town. We played a bit at the casino and then went to Hunter’s for some drinks. Afterwards we thought we’d check out the happy hour at Wang’s. We heard many good things about the place. It was a great happy hour – $2 wells, $4 martinis, happy hour priced apps, and a cutie bartender that poured us heavy drinks! What a great time we had at Wang’s! :) There was also an amazing singer that was performing in the outside patio area. She serenaded us for a bit! After a couple cocktails and some appetisers we thought we’d try out another place and have dinner. Thanks to Yelp, we found a great place called MatchBox! We had ourselves some more cocktails, a Crunchy Tuna Roll, Sliders, Seared Scallops, and a delicious pizza w/ no cheese! Dinner was delicious and so much fun! We chatted with an older couple that was seated next to us for quite a while. They were such cute couple and so much in love. They recommended us some places check out and we recommended them places as well. I’m excited to check these places out…some places you’d never think of going unless someone tells you about how awesome it is. After our lovely dinner we headed back to our hotel room. It was such a great night. It felt as though a couple days had passed but it was all squeezed into this one random Sunday. The awesome thing about this crazy weekend was that we’re off on Monday’s so we were able to enjoy our Monday as well! We checked out of our hotel Monday and headed back to SD…but not without going to Morongo casino along the way to play some games and enjoy ourselves a buffet for lunch! We sure did spoil ourselves this weekend!
Ready for Palm Springs!
At the Spa Resort & Casino
Pooh and I thought we needed a weekend to just relax and do absolutely nothing. We still had our 2 free nights at Escape (a Gay Resort in Palm Springs) from last year’s Halloween costume contest so we decided to take advantage and have ourselves a little mini vacation getaway. We arrived last night (Friday) and will be leaving Monday. I’m excited for the rest of the weekend! :]
We haven’t been to The Hole in a while so we went with our friends to start our Sunday funday with a bang…in the form of a pitcher.
Pooh and I went to La Jolla to check out a new spot called Bardot Bars. Gourmet Ice Cream Bars…yum! (Cupcakes were so yesterday lol) I was just going to get Pooh one and have a taste since I’m lactose intolerant, but the worker said that her boss has a sensitivity to dairy and is able to eat them just fine. (Something about the dairy they use I guess?) Since they looked so delicious, I took her word for it and tried one. I forget what mine was called but it was the smores bar. Pooh got a strawberry cheesecake bar called the New York, New York. They were delicious! The storefront is pretty cute. Pooh said it looked like a Sephora that sold ice cream bars. The lady working was very nice and was right about the dairy. They are a bit pricy at 5 bucks a bar, but if you can spend 5 bucks on a frapp or on a fancy cupcake then it doesn’t really matter – especially if it tastes good. I think they’re yummy and can’t wait to try another! Pooh and I took our tasty treats out to watch the sun set. It was so romantic! :)
Pooh and I went to SF Pride last weekend. We had a blast! We arrived on Friday night and stayed with friends in Daly City. Saturday through Monday we stayed at the Westin in Union Square. I’m glad I was able to meet a lot of people that follow my blog/tumbler/Twitter, though I got a couple messages from people saying they were too scared to say hi. Next time just say hi! :) We don’t bite!
I love San Francisco and can’t wait to be able to go there “just to go” and not for some event like Pride or Folsom. Hopefully we can make another trip soon. Though, I guess next time we’ll fly – Pooh got a speeding ticket on our way up. Ugh.
I posted most of my pics from the weekend to my instagram. If you missed em, here they are!
