FLICKR UPDATE

I’ve finally caught up with uploading all of my backed up images (well, most of it) onto my Flickr. I managed to upload images from 2005 to present day – wuhoo! I haven’t uploaded any TIGGUHH images yet but I will soon. My account was deleted because I had watermarks that said “tiggahtigz.blogspot.com”…do you think they’d do the same if I had a mark that just said “tiggah’s life in random” or “tigguhh”? I’m thinking I would just make all of those images private or perhaps I can make a small logo to put on the bottom right corner of my images.

What I have done with my blog is that I have protected it with a plugin that runs under on my Webpress. It takes care of right click as well as copying any text either. I don’t see why they would care about a logo on your pictures. I also don’t think they would care about words just not an address I guess.

Hey Tiggah. Found an article for you about watermarking and Flickr. Apparently, watermarking, in general, is fine. You can watermark with your website address, or logo, or website name, however if the photo(s) are being used for an adult-content website/blog, and it is watermarked, it violates Flickr’s Terms of Service. That’s why your account got deleted. You can still upload NSFW images to Flickr, but you just can’t watermark them if you’re going to be posting it on your blog.

More info can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/help/forum/87670/?search=guideline

I know there is a plugin out there for WordPress that overlays a watermark (transparent .gif or .png) onto an image directly from your server. I’m 99.9% sure it works for images uploaded DIRECTLY to your site, but not sure if it will overlay the watermark on a Flickr image. Would have to do more Googling on this. But the idea around it would be that users who visit your site will see the watermarked image, but when they go to your Flickr account, there is no watermark. Not sure if this could be considered a workaround or violation of the TOS by Flickr though since technically, there are no watermarks on your images stored on Flickr’s servers.

I found an article regarding watermarks and Flickr. Apparently, it’s okay to have images with watermarks that have your logo, website address, or website name. But if these images are used for an adult-content website/blog, that would be in violation of Flickr’s TOS. That’s the reason why your old account was deleted.

hey tiggah. i’ve tried commenting like three times, but it seems to be deleting my comments. anyway…

the reason why your account got deleted was because when you store watermark photos on flickr and post them on your blog, it violates TOS because your blog is considered adult related. but it’s okay to have watermark photos on flickr, just not used for adult related things.
