GREAT MAPLE

Pooh and I went to Great Maple tonight for dinner. I loved it! We’ve heard good things about the place. It seems the thing to try is their maple bacon donuts…made fresh to order! Unfortunately, they’re only made during lunch/brunch…so we weren’t able to try them.

We started with cocktails, of course. I got the Raspberry Old Fashioned and Pooh got the Two of a Pair.

We tried the Shrimp Ceviche to start. It was a nice sampling of what was to come. The flavors were nice and bold…and had a good amount of heat.

Pooh had the Pork Chops. They were on a bed of this heavenly crusted yam and potatoes concoction… I have no idea what it was but it was amazing!!! I was asking Pooh if he knew what it was since he saw it on the menu but he said he was just saw Pork Chops and said “I want that one!”. -_-…

I got the Fig & Pig. It was a rich and buttery pork belly topped with crunchy potato and yam strings…drizzled with this sweet and savory sauce with hints of Gorgonzola cream to cut into the sweetness. It was divine!

I can’t wait to come back for brunch. It’s a completely different menu and they serve maple bacon donuts…which everyone told me I HAVE to try!

LUNCH AT QUEENSTOWN

image

Pooh and I had lunch at Queenstown in Little Italy on Labor Day.  The food was great and the place was really cute.  The beer cocktails were yummy and everything on the menu looked tasty.  I was really looking forward to trying their breakfast but we got there too late.  I was still very pleased with our lunch though!  We’re definitely coming back to try breakfast and dinner!

GANG KITCHEN

Pooh and I went to Gang Kitchen in downtown for our “Date Night” dinner.  Pooh jogs past it all the time and has been wanting to take me there for some time now.  I was excited to try it!

We both loved the interior design and decor.  The lighting, art work, music, and layout all gave off a young hip vibe and swanky ambiance.  If I had a big open loft, I’d love for it look the same way!

Pooh and I started with an East Asian Tonic and Lady Snowblood cocktail, and also had Sweet Potato and Avocado Spring Rolls for appetizers.  The spring rolls were yummy!  They were sweet and savory, and had the perfect crunch to compliment the soft filling.  I ate all the crumbs on my plate.  :P

For entrées, Pooh ordered the Roasted Duck and I went with the Grilled Shanghai Beef.  Both were absolutely amazing!  The beef was so juicy and I loved the potato frites that came on the side.  Pooh’s duck had this sauce that I basically wanted to pour over everything.  We seriously ate everything on our plates!  I’m so full!  Ugh :X

CARB HEAVEN

Went to a cute little place called Paris Baguette in Clairemont area.  I’ve been on this lil Macaron kick lately.  Been trying to find places that sell em and see which ones are better.  I guess I go through these lil food phases.  Ahh well, I love em!

IZUKAYA MASA

image

Izukaya is another great place to have Japanese food in San Diego.  Their Ramen is incredible!  The only bad thing about the place is that it’s small and not much room for seating, so I highly recommend making reservations.

DATE DAY!

Pooh and I went to Nine Ten Restaurant in La Jolla this past Monday.  It’s been a while since we had a date day so I took Pooh out for a fancy lunch since it was so nice out.  We’ve been wanting to go to Nine Ten for the longest time!  I’m glad we finally tried it because the food was delicious!
