2 days until Gizmo arrives!

Hello Everyone! Sorry I’ve been inactive for a while. Pooh and I have been spending each day after work preparing our house for our puppy’s arrival. We’ve been hardcore cleaning, rearranging furniture, and doggy-proofing the entire place. We’ve got a lot of electronics and gadgets everywhere so we had to tuck cords away and find better storage for everything. Hopefully we don’t have anything accidentally become a chew toy for the lil guy. We’ve also been getting the essentials – doggy bed, food, training pads, doggy wipes, bath and grooming products, cleaning supplies, training treats, doggy bowls, collars, leashes, a doorway blocker thing, toys, and a whole bunch of stuff we probably could of waited to just get later. I know…we’re totally going to spoil this pup…but we’re just so excited that we want to get him everything! We’re going to stick with short daily training sessions and thankfully we live in a very dog friendly neighborhood. We’re pretty much going to take him everywhere!

Any of you guys have a pet? Please share…I’d love to know what kind and what their names are :)

baby rupert is a pekingese/chihuahua mix from tj. he lives with my parents for the time being until we can find a more dog-friendly pad.

flickr pic from his puppy days

but be sure to get him used to other dogs quickly. arrange play dates, go to the dog beaches weekly, and dont give in to his whining when you have to kennel him.

and i also recommend the solid gold brand dog food. my family has been using them for dogs since before i was born and nothing else really compares. theyre based in el cajon too, so expect crescent-freshness. some of the formulas are really fishy, though…

We had Reagan a Persian cat that I had for 16 years but had to put him to sleep on New Years eve because of a brain tumor. We still have 2 Siberian Huskies named Sky and Skoda. They are both black and white Sky has 2 blue eyes and Skoda has one brown eye and one blue eye. They are great. Good luck with Gizmo. You guys have fun with him. They are truly part of the family.

I really want a dog and have been looking out for an English Toy Terrier:

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/English_Toy_Terrier_600_01.jpg

They look like mini-dobermans, they only grow to 30cm tall. i would call him 7.

get him neutered when he’s old enough, its one of the most important thing a dog owner can do unless they are licensed breeders. when you do decide to do it, don’t hesitate on bringing them to non-profit (humane society) clinics. we paid atleast $400 to get our shih tzu fixed and later on realized that humane society charges $40 for the same procedure that was later on performed on our 2nd pup (lhasa apso). the recovery time is the same, very safe. we were a bit worried for both so we decided to take a day off or so after the procedure just to make sure they were ok.

regarding potty training, be patient and be consistent. its best to gradually build up a potty break routine for them. accidents will happen which just teaches you that you really need to stick to the routine for them to be able to get the hang of it.

good luck with the new pup and enjoy coming home to him everyday.

My doggie’s name is Osito. He is a true Mexican dog, a combination of whippett, hound and jack russell plus border collie and other things, even a Mexican zorro (little fox).

Gizmo???… Is that a Mogwai thing? My advice: don’t EVER feed it after midnight, and don’t wash it too often…

(unless you prefer living with a Gremlin)

Awww..he’s so cute! I have a Shih-Tzu named Chipoo (because all 3 of us siblings have our names start with “Ch”).

Although I do envy where you live, because other than tiendesitas, our year-old Chipoo doesn’t get out much. I believe not having playmates is taking its effect on it… how lonely.

It’s a bit tough for a little guy (against other males…very territorial), but he loves and respects us. He’s also very friendly to visitors.

btw, I love what you did with Gizmo, giving him a scarf and all… so cute!
